Last night the Lady Kougar Track and Field Team performed brilliantly against the area's best at the Chesterton Regional.  Soph. sensation Jenna Jungels had another awesome meet, advancing to the state meet in the 100 hurdles, the long jump and 400 relay.  She blistered the 100 hurdles in 14.99 to claim KV's first regional event championship since Kristin Fritts won the 1600 in 2008.  This time also broke her own school-record of 15.04.  She took 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 17'-0", and blasted the second leg of the 400 relay, which also earned a return trip to state, taking a very strong 2nd, seeded 6th, in 50.21. Sr. sprint sensation, Leanna Mulloy returns to state in the 100 by virtue of her very swift time of 12.37, good for 3rd place.  She then anchored the 400 relay team with another very fast leg, as she has done for four years.  Leading off the 400 relay was sr. leader Joli Jungels, who also provided a huge 6th place in the long jump, going 16'-1.25".  "JJ" was also recently named an Indiana Coaches of Girl's Sports Association Academic 1st Teamer, a very prestigious honor.  Only 29 ladies were selected 1st Team, state-wide!  The 3rd leg of the 400 relay was handled by curve expert, sr. athlete, Gab Martin, who ran a terrific leg before handing off to her "cousin" Mulloy.   Jo. Jungels also ran the 100 and 1600 relay and Martin the 200.  Late addition Jazmyne Mehay, tossed the discus 11 feet 6 inches farther than at sectional to make the finals, with a toss of 99'-8".  High jumper Jenna Musall tied her personal record, with a fine leap of 4'-10".  Allison Rockley, sr. distance star, capped her stellar career and season with an outstanding 3200 run of 12:44. 52, and also led off the 3200 relay.  That team included Allison Schultheis, Brittany Kent (who also ran a solid 400) and sr. Brittany Stepp, who ran a 2:33.1 split.  Rockley has signed with IU-Northwest to run cross country this fall and Stepp plans on attending St. Joe's to continue her track career.  Kara Gouwens, Leah Gouwens and Mulloy joined Jo. Jungels on the 1600 relay team and Beth Jansma also competed in the discus.  Mykenzie Seegers pole vaulted for her second straight year at regional, as did Alyssa Eger in the shot.  Eger was 10th with a toss of 33'-11'.  Great season by all and best wishes to the state qualifiers, who will compete June 6th at IU-Bloomington, 2:00 KV time.
