Last night KV's Lady Kougars won their 4th straight track and field sectional, scoring 150 pts. to take the KV Sectional title. Winamac-99, and North Judson- 63, were 2nd and 3rd. Super Soph. Jenna Jungels had perhaps the best meet of her magnificent career, winning the long jump with a fine 17'-3" leap, the 100 hurdles in a meet record time of 15.13, and the 200, also in a meet record time of 25.65. She then joined big sister Joli, Gab Martin and Leanna Mulloy in breaking their own 400 relay meet record with a time of 50.51. Mulloy also had an outstanding meet. She won the 100 title for the 4th year in a row, in 12.56. She anchored the 400 relay champs, and blasted a 60.9 4x400 relay leg for the 1600 relay winners, joined by Jo. Jungels, Leah Gouwens and Kara Gouwens. They ran a season-best time of 4:16.05 for the victory. Jo. Jungels, aka, JJ, was stellar as well. Besides the aforementioned relay winners, she qualified for the Chesterton Regional with an awesome 2nd in the 100 in 13.21, and in the long jump, with a gutsy leap of 16'-1.75", good for 3rd. Other Regional Qualifiers, based on top 4 finishes and/or scratches were: Martin in the 200, with a terrific time and place of 5th in 28.10, a season-best, she was seeded tied for 10th; K. Gouwens-3rd and Brittany Kent-5th in the 400, both are regional qualifiers; Allison Rockley-5th in the 1600 and a courageous 3rd in the 3200 in a time of 13:00.83; the 3200 relay team of Rockley, Allison Schultheis, Brittany Kent and Brittany Stepp-2nd in 10:37.84; Jenna Musall-a HUGE 4th-tie in the high jump, Mykenzie Seegers duplicated that finish in the pole vault; Alyssa Eger-her 2nd straight regional appearance in the shot put with an excellent toss of 34'-5'; Beth Jansma's first regional appearance in track and field with her 3rd place in discus with a toss of 98'-9". Soph. Jazmyne Mehay, 5th in discus, just found out Friday she was also a regional qualifier, a very deserving nod for a very hard worker! Also scoring for KV were: Shanan Patrick-7th in the 100 hurdles in a personal record time of 17.35; Stepp-5th in the 800 and Schultheis-6th in a huge personal record (PR) time of 2:32.86, a PR by over 4 seconds for Ally S.; Ally Tokarz-8th in the 1600 and 7th in the 3200; L. Gouwens-8th in the 300 hurdles; Jansma-5th in shot. Congratulations, ladies on another sectional team title and best wishes at regional!!
