KV Track and Field Wins Twin Lakes Corporation Championship-Women Win, Men Take a Very Strong Second
April 26, 2014Kankakee Valley High School
Last night both of KV's track and field teams performed very well, bringing home the corporation championship trophy with 193 combined points! The women won their meet with 103, and the men were a very solid 2nd with 90. Congratulations to both squads, a huge accomplishment vs. several stellar teams of both genders. The ladies results are as follows: 1600 meter run: in the meet's only open race, vs. many very strong distance runners, senior stars Brittany Stepp and Allison Rockley had outstanding personal ercord races. Stepp was 3rd in 5:42.3, with Rockley 4th in 5:46.4, giving KV 11 big points. The 400 meter relay team of Joli and Jenna Jungels, Gab Martin and Leanna Mulloy tore up the track, winning gold in 50.6, and smashing the old meet record! This season-best (SB) time should currently rank 2nd in the area. The 1600 meter relay team also was dominant, winning in a season-best time of 4:16.1, and should also make the current area best list! That team was Kara Gouwens (62.5), Leah Gouwens (63+), Mulloy and Brittany Kent. The 3200 meter relay team like-wise was very strong, running a SB time of 10:23.1, which should also make the area-best list. That team was Kent-(2:37), Schultheis, Rockley and Stepp-(2:32). The sprint medley team of Je. Jungels (25 second 200), Martin, Mulloy and K. Gouwens (64- 400), all of whom had fantastic meets, blazed to another gold in a time of 1:55.9 for the 800 meter distance. The distance medley team of Schultheis, Audra Lewis, Julianna Colon and Ally Tokarz finished a strong 3rd in 10:52.6, with Schultheis blasting a 2:35 800 split, and fellow Ally and freshman classmate, Tokarz, an outstanding 6:01 1600 leg! KV had an excellent shuttle hurdle squad, winning gold in a very fast time of 58.5, one of the fastest times in school history! That foursome was Jo. Jungels, L. Gouwens, Shanan Patrick and Je. Jungels, all running great legs!! The field events combined the top efforts of each competitor and KV was soid here as well. The Jungels sisters won the long jump, while Joli and Mackenzie DeMars were 3rd in the high jump. Erin and L. Gouwens took 3rd in the pole vault, with "E" tying her personal record with a vault of 7 feet. Alyssa Eger-31'5" and Beth Jansma-29'-11 1/2" (SB) took a huge first in the shot put by 1/4 of an inch! This was the first time in many many years, KV has won a throwing event at Twin Lakes. Jansma and Jazmyne Mehay took 3rd in the discus. It was another championship effort by the entire Lady Kougar team that competed. KV's boys', with many fine efforts, finished very strong. Travis Conley blasted to 1st in the 3200 in a phenomenal time of 9:50.9. Derick Tesh hustled home a very swift anchor leg of the sprint medley to help KV win that event, as the entire KV crowd cheered him on. Brandon VanSoest and Tyler Niehoff dominated the throws, winning the discus with a combined heave of 295'-3" and took a strong 2nd in the shot. Well done, again, both teams.
