Jenna Jungels Jumps to 8th Place Long Jump Medal at Hoosier State Relays Championships

March 24, 2014
Kankakee Valley High School

On Sat. March 22nd, at the Hoosier State Relays (HSR) Championships, aka indoor state meet, soph. sensation Jenna Jungels had another terrific meet when it counted the most.  Seeded 21st in the long jump, she soared 17'- 7 1/2'' to earn the 8th place medal, matching her outdoor state meet finish in 2013, and leaping more than a foot farther than she did in the HSR Trials a week before.  Earlier, on the beautiful Indiana Wesleyan indoor track, "Jr" blasted through the 60 meter hurdles in a personal record time of 9.53, an outstanding 10th overall. Her busy afternoon continued, as she brought home the 4x200 anchor leg in fine fashion, her squad finishing in a very solid 18th place, with a time of 1:54.24.  Among her many accolades already, Je. Jungels has now qualified for a remarkable SEVEN events at the indoor and outdoor state meets, and currently holds three school records: long jump, 4x100 and 4x200. In Saturday's 4x200 relay, big sister, sr. leader Joli Jungels led off the relay with a very swift split of 27.5.  "JJ" is much decorated herself, and is also a terrific jumper/hurdler/sprinter.  The second leg was run by versatile freshman Brittany Kent, who was All-Conf. Honorable Mention in cross country and a member of two swimming relay team school-record holders.  "BKent" blasted her split in a very fast low 28 second leg, followed by hard working classmate, Julianna Colon.  Colon, a soccer player and cheerleader, as well as trackster, broke 30 seconds, then handed to Je. Jungels for a split of low 27's.  It was  a terrific meet and experience for KV's Lady Kougar track and field team.  A HUGE thank you from the KV coaching staff to Mr. and Mrs. Jungels, Mr. and Mrs. Kent and Mr. Colon for driving their daughters to this meet in Marion, IN, it was greatly appreciated.  Their next two meets are March 28th at St. Joe's, (5:00 pm) hosted by Lake Central, and April 5th, (8:30 am) at Thornridge HS, in Illinois.
