Last night a small group of Lady Kougars traveled to state power Lake Central for their first indoor meet of the 2014 season. Soph. sensation Jenna Jungels was in mid-season form, winning the long jump (LJ) at 16'-9'', the 50 meter hurdles (mh) in 7.95 and the 200 in 28. 21, all remarkable performances in her, and her teammates, first live meet of the season. Her buddy, Erin Gouwens, also had a terrific meet, tying her personal record all-time in the pole vault, at 6'-6''. Alyssa Eger took 3rd in the shot with a toss of 31'-10 1/2", a tremendous first meet toss. Beth Jansma, a sr. three sport star, fresh off a basketball sectional title, was 4th with a fine throw of 30'- 2 1/2". Sr. Brittany Stepp, another three-sport star, led the distance crew in the 4x800 and 800, running fine sub 2:45's in both races. Freshmen Brittany Kent, Allison Schultheis and Allison Tokarz also ran strong 4x8 legs, with Kent running a 6:44 1600 and the young Allys running solid 800's also. Leah Gouwens, like Kent and Schultheis, also three sport stars, ran a good 200, taking 4th in 30.13, in her first ever 200. The 3x defending sectional champions return to action Thursday, March 13th in the Hoosier State Relays (HSR) Trials, held at Purdue University. In 2013, Leanna Mulloy (55 meter dash), Je.
