Kougars def BlueJays
September 18, 2013By Katee Sanderson of Kankakee Valley High School
Luke Sanderson was the first match off the court, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the #1 singles position. He took down Denis Stepanov, foreign exchange student from Ukraine, who was undefeated going into this match.
Anthony Zoppetti, was a quick 2nd point for the Kougars. He rolled over Reece Medbourn at the #2 singles position 6-0, 6-0.
KV’s #1 doubles team of Hunter DeHaan and Cameron Fritts ran into a tough opponent. Zachary Bailey and Kaden Shepherd earned North Judson their 1st point of the match.
North Judson came through strong again, at #2 doubles. Quentin Block and Jarda Collins defeated KV’s Adam Sayers and Trevor Wiesemann to tie the score up 2-2.
Kyle Banaszak earned the Kougar’s their 3rd and clinching point at the #3 singles position. He defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-0.
North Judson’s stood strong in the JV match, winning 3-0. All three matches were competitive. Jared Stemper fell 8-4 at #1 singles, while Sam Hamstra and Alex Martakis fell 8-3 at #2 and #3 singles.
Coach Katee comments, “We were not quite sure what to expect out of this match, but we were able to out play them today. They had a strong doubles line up, but we were much deeper in singles. Every position gave it their 100% effort, and it again paid off with another win.”
The Kougars are now 5-7 overall and take on Highland tomorrow at home for senior night.
