Kougars Snap Losing Streak

Wheatfield, IN – KV Boys tennis defeats Rensselaer Central tonight on the road.
The Kougar’s took an early lead when Luke Sanderson swept #1 singles 6-0, 6-0 to make the overall score 1-0.
Cameron Fritts grabbed another point for KV defeating his opponent 7-5, 6-2 at the #3 singles position.
Doubles duo Anthony Zoppetti and Adam Sayers clinch the match for KV with a 7-5, 6-1 win over the Bombers at the #1 doubles position.
Kyle Banaszak pulls out a 7-5, 6-3 battle over his #2 singles opponent to give KV a strong 4-0 lead.
Bombers’ lone point came at #2 doubles after Trevor Wieseman and Hunter DeHaan fell short of victory. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, they rally back to win the second set 6-4. A 10-point tiebreak was played in leu of a third set, where Bombers pulled out a close 10-3 battle.
Rensselaer Central wins a tight 2-1 JV match. KV’s Sam Hamstra had a comeback victory at the #1 singles position, the final score was 9-7.
After a late start, Jared Stemper fell 8-4 to his #2 singles opponent.
Alex Martakis fought hard but lost in the end to Bomber’s #3 singles.
Coach Katee comments, “It is truly the best feeling in the world to see hard work pay off for the boys. I am so happy to see them come together and play as a team. I think we’re starting to see everyone’s place on the team, and can’t wait to see how much they continue to improve.”
The Kougars are now 1-1 overall and take on Valparaiso Monday at home.
