Home » Girls' Track & Field NewsGirls' Track and Field Opens Indoor Season With Outstanding PerformancesMarch 1, 2013 Kankakee Valley High SchoolLast night KV's Lady Kougar Track and Field Team opened their 2013 season in a big way vs. state power Lake Central at the LC Fieldhouse. Competing in flats and on LC's gym and/or multi-purpose floor, and competing live for the first time, KV's athletes had performances that would be real good at the end of the outdoor season! Fr. Jenna Jungels burst onto the HS scene with two stellar wins; leaping a remarkable 17'- 3/4" to take the long jump, already one of the longest jumps in KV history! She then swept to victory in the 50 hurdles in an excellent time of 6.93. 3x state qualifier jr. Leanna Mulloy picked right up where she left off, winning the 50 in a very fast time of 6.28. Distance star soph. Michelle Kent, fresh off a tremendous cross country season, won the 1600 in an outstanding time of 5:55.0. Jr. Joli Jungels also had a fine meet: taking 3rd in the long jump with a strong leap of 15'-6 3/4" and grabbing 4th in the hurdles in 8.85. Soph. vaulter Mykenzie Seegers had a phenomenal effort, leaping 7'-6", good for 3rd place and tying her personal record in her first time vaulting all season live! Soph. Jenna Musall and fr. Alyssa Eger, competing in their first EVER track and field meet were also exceptional. Eger took 2nd in the shot with a tremendous heave of 31'-6'' and Musall showed off her hops, taking 4th in the high jump with a stellar leap of 4'-10"! Soph. 4x4 state qualifier Kara Gouwens ran a strong 400 and took 3rd in the shot with a fine 31'-3" toss. Sister Leah Gouwens had two strong 400 runs as well. Jrs. Gabby Martin and Allison Rockley, both vital members of KV's 2x sectional team champions, took 2nd in the 200 and 800 respectively. Martin, a 4x4 state qualifier, ran a fine 28.7, and Rockley, a much-decorated distance star, ran a strong 2:54.0. This fine effort should propel KV into tomorrow's meet looking for more fine performances. KV takes part in the Hoosier State Relays Trials, held at Purdue, and this meet also includes star distance runner from the boys' team, Travis Conley.
