Babicka-School Record and Three Wins and Sittema-Four Wins, Lead Swimmers to Victory Over Bombers

Using lots of team depth, and again led by junior stars Maddie Babicka and Abbey Sittema, the Lady Kougar Swim/Dive Team beat a very strong Rensselaer Bomber team 103-82, to improve to 7-4 on the season. The 200 medley relay team, outstanding all year, again took a tough 1st in a time of 2:04.7. That team was Kate Lott, sr. leader Alysia Beenes, Babicka and Sittema. The team of Madi Klauer, Leah Gouwens, Sonny Anderson and Jordon Dittrich took 3rd. Jordan Rhoades took a solid 2nd in the 200 free. Caitlin Roth was 4th in a PR time of 2:29.06, with Sarah Axtell also swimming a PR of 2:40.75. Sittema took 1st in the 200 IM in an excellent time of 2:26.02. Anderson was 3rd and Lott-4th. Babicka remained unbeaten in the 50 free, splashing to victory in 25.40. The valuable Klauer was 3rd in 28.25, with Dittrich-5th. Divers Jordan Brodner and Maribeth Strong took care of business with an important 1-2 finish, Brodner scoring over 147 pts. for her 6 dives. Anderson was 2nd and Beenes 3rd in the 100 fly. Jordyn Rentschler swam a PR of 1:47.59. Sittema won the 100 free in her usual smooth fashion, her winning time was 58.92. Brittany Stepp swam a courageous 100, taking a strong 3rd, with Gouwens, like Klauer, Anderson, Rhoades, Lott, etc. providing valuable points, placing 4th in a PR time of 1:09.14. Roth was 3rd in the grueling 500 free, with Axtell-5th. Rhoades, Lott, Beenes and Klauer were 2nd in the 200 free relay; Gouwens, in a PR leg of 30.6, Dittrich, who swam an excellent leg, Anderson and Roth were 3rd. Babicka battled hard in the 100 back, taking 2nd in a school record time of 1:05.7! This is Babicka's third school record this season! Rhoades also swam a great event here, taking 3rd in a PR time of 1:12.15, among KV's Top 10 all-time! In a very competitive 100 breaststroke event, KV went 2-3-4 with Klauer, Beenes and Gouwens finishing in that order. Klauer swam another PR in this event with her fine time of 1:22.17. Sittema led off the 400 free relay winner for her 4th win of the evening, followed by Rhoades, Stepp and Babicka. Their time was 4:16.47. Roth, Dittrich, Jess Nagel and Axtell took 3rd with Axtell providing a strong anchor leg. Rhoades, Stepp and Dittrich also swam fine legs of their relays. KV travels to North Newton tomorrow night for their final regular season meet.
