Sittema Breaks IM School Record; Babicka Three Wins and Beenes Two vs. Wheeler

Last night KV's Lady Kougar Swim Team lost a tough meet vs. an excellent Wheeler squad. Now 6-4 on the season, Maddie Babicka had three wins and Alysia Beenes two. Head Coach Kevin Stephens also announced that jr. Abbey Sittema broke the old school record vs. Merrillville in the 200 individual medley with a time of under 2;24.0! Congratulations to Sittema!! KV again won the 200 medley relay in 2:05.13. That quartet was Kate Lott, Beenes, Babicka and Sittema. Madi Klauer, Leah Gouwens, Sonny Anderson and Jordon Dittrich took 3rd. Jordan Rhoades was 4th in the 200 free, with Caitlin Roth 5th in a personal record (PR) time of 2:30.64. Sittema was 2nd in the 200 IM with Beenes 5th. Babicka remained undefeated in the 50 free in 25.47, with Klauer blasting in with a very fast PR time of 27.94, good for 3rd. Dittrich was 5th. Maribeth Strong had a fine diving event, winning with a score of 134.80. Jordan Brodner was 2nd. Anderson was 3rd in the 100 fly, with Jordyn Rentschler 5th. Sittema was 2nd in the 100 free. Brittany Stepp, swimming with a sore back, was 5th. Gouwens set a new PR of 1:09.3. Roth, who had an excellent meet, set another PR in the 500 free, taking 3rd in 6:42.95, a PR by a whopping 7 seconds!! Beenes, Lott, Rhoades and Klauer were 3rd in the 200 free relay, with Klauer blazing an anchor leg of 27.64! Rhoades then came right back with a strong PR in the 100 back, getting 4th in 1:12.67. Babicka powered to 1st in a fine time of 1:06.33, just off KV's school record. Lott was 5th. As in most meets, the 100 breaststroke was a highlight last night. Beenes blasted to a victory in an excellent time of 1:21.31. Klauer hustled home with a huge PR of 1:22.37. Gouwens was a very strong 4th. Sittema, Rhoades, Lott and Babicka were 2nd in the 400 free relay. They look to finish their fine season strong, with away meets at Rensselaer on Tuesday and North Newton on Thursday.
