Jr. superstar Maddie Babicka had a tremendous meet, winning the 50 free in 24.76, taking 3rd in the 100 free in a school record time of 55.59, and also swimming on the 3rd place medley relay and 400 free relay teams. Babicka was All-NCC 1st Team in the 50 free, a KVHS first for a female swimmer, and All-NCC Honorable Mention (HM) in her other three events, a remarkable 4x All-Conference selection!
Classmate and fellow star Abbey Sittema also had a stellar meet. Not only did she blaze relay legs on the medley and 400 free relays mentioned above, but she also earned three All-NCC HM honors, taking 3rd in the individual medley in a personal record (PR) time of 2:26.76. Sittema also was 5th in the 100 free.
Twelve individual places scored and 6 relay teams garnered points. Joining Babicka and Sittema on the All-NCC HM medley relay team were Kate Lott and Alysia Beenes. Their time was a season-best (SB) 2:04.14. Jordan Rhoades swam a PR in the 200 free of 2:20.26, good for 7th place. Brittany Stepp was a solid 10th. Sarah Axtell also swam a PR of 2:41.74. Fighting illness, Audra Lewis was a solid 7th in the 50 free in a real good time of 27.72.

Stepp showed how strong KV is in the freestyle events, grabbing a very strong 11th in the 100 free in a PR time of 1:06.68. Along with Babicka's 3rd and Sittema's 5th in that event, KV scored 24 points in this event alone.
Caitlin Roth swam a solid PR time of 6:49.9 in the 500 free event, taking 10th place. Lewis, Rhoades, Stepp and Madi Klauer all swam strong, taking 4th in the 200 free relay in a SB time of 1:54.1. Rhoades and Lott took 8th and 9th in the 100 back, Rhoades swimming a near PR of 1:13.16. Jess Nagel swam a PR time of 1:27.98.
Sr. captain Beenes continued her stellar career, leading KV's charge in the 100 breaststroke event with a very strong 4th place. Lewis hustled in 5th, and freshman Leah Gouwens, seeded 11th, swam a PR by 4 seconds to grab 7th place, giving KV a whopping 28 points in this one event!! Rhoades and Stepp joined Sittema and Babicka on the 3rd place 400 free relay team, earning All-NCC HM honors. They swam a SB time of 4:04.42.
Battling state power Munster, area power Highland, and the rest of the very strong NCC teams, KV performed its best when it counted the most. Great job, ladies!! Their next meet is Thursday at Wheeler.
