Area Power Highland Tops Lady Kougar Swimmers

Last night KV's 10th ranked area swimmers and divers lost to a very strong Highland team 121-64. Abbey Sittema had an outstanding meet, winning the 200 IM in a personal-record (PR) time of 2:29.74, one of KV's all-time fastest times for that event. She also took 2nd in the 100 free in another PR time of 58.93. Buddy Maddie Babicka blazed to another 50 free win in 25.14, just off her own school-record. Babicka was also 2nd in the 500 free in one of her best times ever, 6:00.69. Jordan Brodner had a very strong win in the diving event, scoring 147.55 pts. Jordan Rhoades and Alysia Beenes joined Babicka and Sittema on the 200 medley relay team that was 2nd in 2:06.79. Rhoades was 3rd in the 200 free with Caitlin Roth 5th. Kate Lott was 5th in the 200 IM, as was Brittany Stepp in the 50 free. Maribeth Strong was 3rd in diving, as was Beenes in the 100 fly. Stepp was also 5th in the 100 free, as was Sonny Anderson in the 100 fly. Roth was 5th in the 500 free in a PR time of 7:00.05. Lott swam a strong 100 back, taking 2nd in 1:13.67, with Rhoades in 3rd in 1:15.01. Beenes was 2nd in the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.58, Madi Klauer was 4th in a PR time of 1:30.58, and Leah Gouwens was 5th, also in a PR time of 1:33.69. Sittema, Rhoades, Beenes, and Babicka took 2nd in the 400 free relay in a time of 4:23.82. KV is now 2-1 on the season and in the NCC, and travels to North Judson tomorrow night.
