Home » Girls' Track & Field NewsLady Kougars Win Track SectionalMay 17, 2012 Kankakee Valley High SchoolLast night the KV Lady Kougar Track and Field Team won their second straight sectional, and third in five years, with 149 points. They won all three relays, advanced 16 individuals to the Regional, (top 4 in each event advance), and scored in every event. Leanna Mulloy had a stellar night, winning four events, and setting two meet records. She won the 100 in a meet record 12.49, and the 200 in another meet record of 26.44. She anchored the 400 relay winner in a season-best time of 51.48, and ran the third leg on the 1600 relay winner, that group running a very fast 4:08.73. Dayton Dellahan also had a terrific night, joining Mulloy with four event wins: anchoring the 3200 and 1600 relay winners, running the third leg on the 400 relay champs, and winning the 400 in a personal record time of 61.32. Gabby Martin and Joli Jungels both qualified for Regionals in four events, and Michelle Kent in three distance events. Martin was 3rd in the 100, and 2nd in the 200, while running strong legs on the 400 and 1600 relay winners. Jungels was 2nd in the long jump, and 3rd in both hurdles, also running on the 400 relay team. Kent was on the 3200 relay winner, and took 2nd in both the 1600, and 3200, exhibiting a strong kick in the latter event.
Martin's time in the 100 was 13.37, while her 200 time was 27.30. Jungels long jumped 15'-9 1/4", ran the 100's in a very fast 16.94, and the 300's in a season-best time of 50.40. Kent's 1600 time was 5:43.18, and her 3200 time, following her amazing finish, was 12:36.99. Joining Dellahan and Kent on the 3200 relay winner ( a fine time of 10:21.77) was Allison Rockley and Brittany Stepp. Rockley was 5th in the 1600 in 5:52.37, and 7th in the 800 in 2:38.95, while Stepp took 5th in the 3200 in 12:52.83. Many team members were battling the heat and illnesses, making this team title even more impressive. Fr. Kara Gouwens had an outstanding meet, running her usual strong lead-off 1600 relay leg, taking 7th in the shot, and blazing a PR 400 in 61.55, good for 2nd just behind teammate Dellahan. Sr. Bree Babe, still battling a bruised foot, continued her stellar career, grabbing 2nd in the pole vault at 9'-00", to qualify for her third straight regional. Fr. Shanan Patrick ran a strong 100's, grabbing 7th in a PR time of 18.04, far exceeding her seed time and place. Sr. Angie DeFries had an excellent high jump, grabbing 6th place with a PR tying jump of 4'-10''. Mykenzie Seegers was a solid 6th in the long jump with a leap of 14'-11 1/4"; Beth Jansma was 7th in the discus with a toss of 83'-3'', and Deanna Hardin was 8th in the shot with a toss of 28'-5". KV's many regional qualifiers compete at the Chesterton Regional, Tuesday, May 22nd. Congratulations to the entire team, and best wishes at the regional.
