April 12, 2012
Kankakee Valley High School

Tonight in one of KV's top performances in recent years, the Lady Kougars, ranked 8th in the area, beat an improving North Judson squad 105-24, to improve to 2-1 on the regular season.  They set a minimum of 29 personal records (PRs), season-bests (SB), and/or potential area bests (AB)-(top 10 performances from schools that feed into the Chesterton Regional.)  Sophomore jumper/hurdler Joli Jungels won the 100 hurdles in 17.0, and ran on the 4x100 winner that won in 52.7, among the area bests.  "JJ" saved her best performance for the long jump, winning that event with a tremendous PR leap of 16'-1 1/2", among the area bests, and among the top jumps in school-history.  Classmate sprinter Leanna Mulloy also had a great meet, winning the 100, 200, and anchoring the 4x1 winner.  Mulloy's 100 time was a season-best 12.8, and among the area bests, as was her 200 time of 26.9, which could be THE top time currently in the area.  Sr. versatile long sprinter Dayton "Tator" Dellahan, also brought home three blues, from all three relays.  She anchored the 4x8 winner to a SB time of 10:31.8, and the 4x4 winner to a SB and AB time of 4:26.1, running a strong 64.0 leg. Tator also ran on the 4x1 winning team.  Soph. Allison Rockley ran very tough all meet, also grabbing three blue ribbons.  "Ally" led off the 4x8 winner in 2:36.0, won the 800 in a PR time of 2:37.0, and ran the 3rd leg of the 4x4 winner.  Sr. Bree Babe had a great night in the pole vault, winning with an official measured jump of 9'-10'', a SB, and moving her up on the area best list.  Soph. sprinter Gabby Martin, Mulloy's cousin, and half of one of the top sprint duos in the area, along with Mulloy, had an excellent meet.  "Gab" chased Mulloy in the 100 and 200, grabbing seconds in both events.  Her time in the 100 was a PR 12.9, among the area bests still, as was her 200 time of 27.1, also a PR.  Martin also led off the 4x1 winner.  Freshman Michelle Kent and Kara Gowens also had strong meets.  Kent ran on the 4x8 winner and won the 1600 in a fine time of 5:43.7.  Gouwens, a rare athlete skill-wise, won the 400 in a PR time of 64.8, took 2nd in the shot vs. Judson's always strong throwers, with a PR toss of 31'-11 1/2", and led off the 4x4 winners with a 65.0 leg.  Soph. Beth Jansma, still new to the event, won the discus with a toss of 84'-1'', with fr. Cassie Cleveland, also a discus newbie, grabbing 3rd with a PR toss of 81'-9''.  Arianna Koppen also PR'd in this event. Fr. Shanan Patrick had another fine meet; she won the 300 hurdles in 54.7, took 2nd in the 100 hurdles in a PR time of 18.7, and was 2nd in the high jump, which was won by sr. Angie DeFries. Fr. jumper/vaulter Mykenzie Seegers set two PR's, vaulting an outstanding 7'-6'' in the pole vault, good for 2nd, and also taking 2nd in the long jump with a PR leap of 14'-10". Hannah Klemp was 3rd in the 100 hurdles, and 2nd in the 300's, setting PR's in both events.  Brittany Stepp was 1st in the 4x8, and 2nd in the 1600 with a PR of 5:51.3.  Audra Lewis was 1st in the 4x4, and 3rd in the 400.  Kate Lott was 2nd in the 3200 in a SB time of 13:42.3.  Laura Stoermann was 3rd in the 800 in a PR time of 2:49.6.  Becca Loslo took 3rd in the 300 hurdles.  This was a tremendous overall team effort.  They return to action this Sat. at the Wheeler Invite
