After a slow start, St. Francis deSales (33-4-1) imposed themselves offensively against Olentangy Liberty, tallying 42 shots on goal over the three periods. Liberty goalie junior Eddie Arcy was busy all afternoon, with St. Francis deSales striking first with junior Ben Torchia. The goal would be Torchia's first of three on the afternoon to earn a hat-trick. Liberty answered right away with a goal by freshman Chris Bergamesca. Not long after Liberty, sophomore Ethan Hollingsworth scored on an assist from junior Alec Vidrick to put the Patriots ahead 2-1 to close out the first period. The second period scoring began right away with St. Francis tallying three unanswered goals by senior Tyler Murphy, Torchia and junior Reid Kersey. Assists came from Knights' teammates senior Jake Wawrzyniak, senior Jeff Fuzinski and junior Trent Streichert. Liberty added its second score late in the period on a goal by senior Jimmy Ruska. The Knights dominated the scoring in the third period with Torchia adding his third goal, Kersey and Murphy their second, Streichert his first and senior Nate Opblinger with his first. The Patriots added one last goal to their total in the period with Ruska scoring his second for the afternoon. St. Francis goaltender junior Thomas Kosinski made 25 saves on the afternoon. Olentangy Liberty finishes the year 27-9-1 after reaching the school's first ice hockey state semifinal. St. Francis advances to play the winner of Lakewood St. Edward and Gates Mills Gilmour Academy in the championship game Sunday at noon.
