The Class of 2011 has gotten the school year off to a great start. This year's Senior Class began the year with their first class meeting where they discussed the many events and activities planned for the upcoming year. Mr. Denis, vice principal of Irvington High School, informed the Senior Class of the upcoming expenses for their senior year. "The cost of the prom will be $95.00 for a prom ticket," stated Mr. Denis. In addition to the prom, Mr. Denis also informed the class that $450.00 to pay for the senior trip to Virginia. There was also the promise of a "Big event on Graduation Day." Seniors were encouraged to begin fundraising for these events immediately. Senior Class advisors, Ms. Amato and Ms. Meloro, encouraged seniors to begin selling candy as a way to lower their senior expenses. At the meeting, seniors who have not yet passed the HSPA were reminded of the importance of successfully passing both parts of the test in order to graduate. Seniors were encouraged to take The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test as a way to not only prepare for the HSPA, but also to learn of possible career choices both in and out of the military. The test is administered through the JROTC. Mr. Burnett Davis, principal of Irvington High School, informed the seniors that he will be there for them throughout the year. Mr. Davis will be hosting a "Senior Leadership Thursday" program throughout the school year. Many members of the Senior Class are on board with the exciting plans for the Class of 2011. "I feel that the seniors have stepped up this year and are ready to work as a group. Good luck to the Class of 2011."
