The Parent, Teacher, and Student Association (PTSA,) from Irvington High School, is hosting an ‘Oldies Night’ at Irvington High School, Irvington, NJ. Everyone over 21 years of age is invited to attend on March 30th, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
According to Ms. Patricia Boone, the parent coordinator of the PTSA, parents and adults should be allowed to let their hair down occasionally. “We do it for parents mainly in order to let the parents get a chance to enjoy themselves and have fun. We try to give them a treat every once in a while.”
Ms. Boone went on to explore other ideas for the school community. “Maybe we will throw a similar event for youths in the future to give them the experience of the 70’s.”
Some adults had questions about the price of the tickets for the event. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door. Ms. Desiraee Holt, a guidance counselor stated, “The tickets are just too expensive. Why does it need to be so expensive?”
Ms. Boone responded by explaining that the money raised is used to provide four $200 scholarships for four students from IHS. “We select four seniors with input from the guidance counselors, with good attendance, good grades and good behavior and supply then with a $200 scholarship to help them with their studies. That’s why we price events this way.”
The PTSA does not mind hosting such events because they usually have big turn outs, according to Ms. Boone. “When I just started working in 2000, only five or six parents would turn out to an event or meeting and, because not many turned out, only a few people supported the program. Now over 100 people turn out to the PTSA meetings, increasing the support.”
Ms. Boone also mentioned that anyone in the Irvington community can come to the PTSA meetings to give ideas for events to plan. However, the events are not limited to only the Irvington community. The 'Oldies Night' is for everyone, even beyond the borders of Irvington Township.
The PTSA requests everyone come out and support a good cause. Come Back to the '70's on March 30 in the Irvington High School Gymnasium from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's time to have some fun!
