3 OUT OF 4

March 9, 2012
By DeMarco King of Justin F Kimball High School

Kimball will play for Class 4A State Championship on tomorrow at 3pm at University of Texas' Frank Erwin Center against Houston Jack Yates. Both teams have been involved in the championship game in the last for years. Yates beat Kimball in 2009 94-78. Then they won in 2010. Kimball is going for it's first back to back since 1996-97. Coach Royce "Snoop" Johnson is trying to repeat what his father (Goree Johnson) has done in the past. "I think this team is better than last years", stated Senior Guard David Tucker said early in the season. "We seem to be more as a team and more together."

In the playoffs, Kimball has averaged 71 points per game and held its opponents to 57.2 point per game. Holding Yates to 57 points will be a big challenge for the Knights. But on the other side score 80 plus points against this Knights defense will be very hard for Yates. "Defense is what I put more pride into" said Coach Snoop. Defense is what the Knights do have after beating SOC by 20 points in the Regional Finals last week. Kimball will need scores from Junior Keith Frazier (18.8), Senior Shannon Lilly (14.8 and last years Finals MVP) and Senior David Tucker (8.3). This is what they've averaged in the playoffs. If they can get help from Senior Foward Darion Hancock, Junior Guards Sheldon Yearwood and Torrey Henry, and Sophomore D'Angelo Allen to produce, they can win the game and bring another title back to the "K".
