Dec, 14 – at New Boston Huron Special teams dominated the scoring in this non-league game against New Boston Huron, as only one of the eight goals came with both clubs at full strength. Bedford outlasted the Chiefs 5-3 on three third period power play goals, breaking a 2-2 tie.
The Mules also scored one short-handed goal. Huron scored twice while short-handed and once on a power play. Noah Szenderski and Grant McCormack scored twice for Bedford, with Dominic Pisanti adding one goal. Travis Krider and Kyle Kuhr each chipped in a pair of assists.
Szenderski opened the scoring in the last minute of the first period, then McCormack made it 2-0 on a short-handed goal two minutes into the second period. Huron got that goal back on a power play during the same penalty, then after receiving a penalty, scored a short-handed goal of their own less than a minute later to tie it at 2-2. The last 13 minutes of the period were scoreless. However, in the last 91 seconds of the second period, the Chiefs were assessed two penalties.
Just 18 seconds into the third period, with the Mules skating 5-on-3, Szenderski scored to give Bedford a lead it would hold. Then 24 seconds later, still on a power play, Pisanti made it 4-2. For the next 12 minutes the teams traded shots, with both goalkeepers standing tall.
McCormack gave the Mules an insurance goal with just under four minutes remaining on yet another power play goal, only to have Huron score short-handed during that same penalty just 14 seconds later.
