HS and JHS Sideline Cheer Tryouts

High School Sideline Cheer Tryouts-

Dates to know:

Mandatory Parent Meeting
-Tuesday, May 3rd, 5:45pm in the high school cafeteria

Open gyms- Fridays, May 13th 3-4:40pm and May 20th 3-5pm, Held in the HS Gym

Tryouts- May 23rd -27th, 5:15-7:30pm, Held at the football stadium
23rd - all grades, 5:15-7:30pm -bring signed papers!
(no HS tryouts on the 24th)
25th - only sophomores and freshman, 5:15-7:30pm
26th - all grades -final day! 5:00pm-6:15pm

Requirements: Things that will be judged at tryouts 1. Cheer (will be taught at tryouts) 2. Jumps: right side herkie, toe touch, front hurdler 3. Gymnastics: skills without a spotter
- Round Off, Back Walkover, Back Handspring, Back tuck
Varsity Team: you must successfully throw a back handspring on the track surface. Any higher tumbling skills or connected skills are seen as "extra credit." Beneficial, but not a requirement to make the team.
4. Flexibility: switch splits/heel stretch 5. Ability, dependability, and versatility 6. Teachability-Team Mentality


Junior High Sideline Cheer Tryouts (7th and 8th Grade)-


Dates to know:

Mandatory Parent Meeting- Tuesday, May 3rd, 5:45p.m. in the HS cafeteria

Open gyms- Fridays, May 13th 4:30-6:00 p.m. and May 20th 5:00-6:30 p.m., Held in
the HS Gym

Tryouts- Week of May 23rd -27th, Held at the football stadium
24th - 5:15-7:30 p.m. - bring all signed papers!
26th - 6:00-7:30 p.m. - Be ready to try-out!
27th - 3:30-5:00 p.m. - Finish try-outs and teams will be announced this
day
5:00-5:30 p.m. - Parent Meeting for team members, plan to have
one parent present

Requirements: Things that will be judged and considered at Jr. High tryouts

1. Chant: will be taught at try-outs
2. Jumps: Toe Touch and Herkie
3. Gymnastics: skills without a spotter
- Forward roll, Cartwheel, Round Off, Back Walkover, Back Handspring, Back tuck
- Tumbling skills are beneficial, but not a requirement to make the team.
4. Flexibility: switch splits and heel stretch
5. Ability, dependability, and versatility
6. Teacher Evaluation Sheet- Must bring to try-outs on the first day!
