Girls Soccer wraps up fine season in loss to Saline in Districts

The Bedford Girls Varsity soccer team (7-7-3) dropped a 4-0 decision Tuesday night to visiting Saline in the opening round of the MHSAA District playoffs.
The Hornets led just 1-0 at intermission despite out-shooting the Kicking Mules 14-0 in the opening 40 minutes. Becky Sulkowski scored in the 25th minute off an assist from Annalise Iraola.
The Bedford defense was able to frustrate the Saline offense by allowing just five of the 14 shots to go on goal.
Saline went ahead 2-0 just 3:37 after halftime on a goal by Molly O'Sullivan. The Hornets increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal by Taylor Mulder at 67:55. The game's fnal goal was scored by Maddy Ross off an assist from Macy Holmberg just 45 seconds after Mulder's goal.
Grace Brown played the first 69 minutes for Bedford making eight saves, while Marley Brereton made four stops in her 11 minutes of action. Sofia Sweier did not record a save as Saline finished with a 31-1 advantage in shots. Bedford's best scoring chance came six minutes into the second half but Abbey Oswald's shot was wide of the mark.
Saline will play Woodhaven at 5:30 pm on Thursday at Bedford, preceded by the Monroe vs. Ypsilanti Lincoln match at 4 p.m.
