Bedford ladies hang tough with powerful AA Pioneer squad

The Bedford Girls Varsity soccer team (7-6-2) played strongly defensively Monday evening at home against Pioneer (14-2-0) but the end the Pioneers came away with a 2-0 win scoring once in each half.
 
The guests held a 22-5 advantage in shots on goal, but Kicking Mules goalkeeper Grace Brown made nine saves and senior defender Hannah Duschl cleared another shot off the goal line.
 
Rachel Ciarkowski scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Mackenzie Sapp, while Emily Turner scored on a re-start in the 78th start.
 
Pioneer goalkeeper Sofia Gambini did not make a save in the contest.
 
Bedford visits Monroe on Thursday before hosting Ypsilanti in a 4 p.m. rescheduled match on Friday to conclude the regular season.

The Bedford Girls Junior Varsity soccer squad (5-7-3) withheld on strong offensive onslaught by the Pioneers but suffered a 2-0 setback at home on Monday evening.
 
Maya Burgard tallied the game-winning goal in the 54th minute off a feed from Madeleine Schoeni, while Schoeni completed the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 61st minute.
 
Rachel Schott was outstanding for the Kicking Mules making nine saves, while Annie Rademacher made two saves for Pioneer.
 
Bedford travel to Monroe on Thursday for a 3:30 match to conclude its season.
