GIBRALTAR -- The Temperance Bedford Kicking Mules (1-0-0 overall) won its season opener Monday evening at Gibraltar Carlson.

After a scoreless first half, Bedford took a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute as sophomore Kortney Sheeder netted the first goal of the year off an assist from Abbey Oswald.

The host Marauders tied the contest six minutes later on a goal by Dani Simmons.

The Kicking Mules tallied the game winner with 4:01 left as junior Taya Bailey put a header past the GC goalkeeper on a re-start off a pass from senior Mia Stroud.

Grace Brown played the first half in goal for Bedford stopping all three shots she faced.  Marley Brereton played the final 40 minutes turning aside three of four shots.

The GC netminder made two saves, plus had another save by a defender with eight minutes remaining in the first half.

The junior varsity contest ended in a 2-2 draw.  Kyleigh South scored the first goal of the match and Bedford's Elise Covrett tallied the game-tying goal in the final 15 minutes.  Rachel Schott made six saves for Bedford.
