Home » Hockey NewsLast second goal by Dexter sinks BedfordJanuary 11, 2013 Bedford SportsWed. Jan. 9 – at Dexter Second period woes again sank Bedford as they fell by a 6-5 score to Dexter. The Mules outscored the Dreadnaughts by a goal in both the first and third periods, but three Dexter goals in between were enough to secure the win.
After falling behind 1-0, Bedford tied the game on Noah Szenderski’s short-handed goal, then Jim Schulty put the Mules ahead late in the first period, assisted by Connor Glick and Grant Harper. But the Bedford 2-1 lead turned into a 4-2 Dexter lead by the time the second period ended.
Five minutes into the third period, Szenderski brought the Mules within one with his second goal of the game, assisted by Kyle Kuhr. The Dreadnaughts made it 5-3 three minutes later and seemed to have the game well in hand.
When Dexter took a penalty with just under three minutes remaining, Coach Randy Menchaca pulled the goalkeeper, and the result was a power play goal by Kuhr, assisted by Devin Keener. The Mules kept pressuring Dexter, and with exactly a minute remaining Weston Swick tied the game, assisted by Jacob Ansara.
But just as everybody started thinking overtime and a possible repeat of the comeback effort against Saline, the Dreadnaughts dashed those hopes on a breakaway goal with 38 seconds left in regulation time. Bedford outshot Dexter 35-33.
