Home » Girls' Soccer NewsJV Girls win Inagural Bay City InvitationalApril 21, 2012 Bedford SportsThe Bedford girls junior varsity soccer team won the inaugural Bay City Western Invitational on Saturday, April 21, its third tournament title in the last 13 months.
The Kicking Mules tied the tournament hosts (Bay City Western) 1-1 in the first round.
Cara Stangscored for Bedford off an assist by Maddie Hanson.
The Mules blanked Milan 5-0 in the second round to secure a berth in the championship game. Mia Stroud had three goals against Milan with Hanson and Cassidy Floriana also scoring. Taya Bailey had three assists in the match, while Hanson and Erin Jacobs each had helpers.
In the championship game against Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central, the Panthers scored in the third minute of the contest, but Bedford rebounded scoring twice in the second half. Shelby Pope tied the match on a rebound goal in the 45th minute off a shot by Stroud. Karlyn Manera netted the game-winning goal with 3:04 left off another assist by Stroud.
Shawna Bucher was the Bedford goalkeeper for all three matches.
The Kicking Mules play a conference match on Tuesday at Dexter.
