The Bedford loss spoiled the possibility of an undefeated season in the Northwest Conference. In their first meeting three weeks earlier, Bedford mercied the Panthers, so there was a bit of overconfidence coming into the game.
Maumee set the tone for the evening with a short-handed goal to open the scoring midway through the first period. The Panthers added another goal late in the period on a power play. Then halfway through the second period another power play goal made it 3-0 and the Mules had dug themselves into a deep hole.
Noah Szenderski gave Bedford some life with a late goal, then Grant McCormack scored on a Mule power play early in the third period to make it 3-2. Neither team could score again, and Maumee emerged with the victory.
Sat. Jan. 28 – home vs. Ann Arbor Skyline Ann Arbor Skyline is wrapping up its first season in the SEC. The Eagles traveled to the Ice House for their first encounter with Bedford, and left on the short end of a 5-0 score. The Mules scored in each period, with Zane Smith turning back all 19 Skyline shots in goal. Not only did Bedford score in each period, Kyle Kuhr scored in each period as well.
Kuhr had the only goal of the first period. Two minutes into the second period Devin Keener made it 2-0, and Kuhr followed with a short-handed goal two minutes later. There was no more second period scoring.
Halfway through the third period Grant Harper scored on a tip-in, followed by Kuhr’s hat trick goal with six minutes left in the game.
