Home » Boys' Basketball NewsJuCo Transfer Chris Jones Picks LouisvilleSeptember 17, 2012 By Jon Hancock of KentuckySports.co
Jones is one of the most highly coveted junior college transfers for the 2013 class. Rick Pitino and the Louisville coaching staff has been recruiting Jones hard for the past several months as they looked for a quality replacement for senior point guard, Peyton Siva. Like Siva, Jones is a quick guard who makes smart decisions with the basketball. Jones scored 18 points and four assists a game last year for NW Florida State. Jones originally apart of Tennessee's 2011 class. But he decommitted after Bruce Pearl was fired and went with Tennessee's then assistant coach, Steve Forbes, to NW Florida State. I recently asked Steve Forbes about his start point guard would bring to Louisville, "Chris is a winner," Forbes said. "He won the state title at Melrose High School in Memphis and was the state tournament MVP. He led NWF to the National Championship game and a 32-2 record a year ago. He was the first freshman in the Panhandle Conference to win Player of the Year since Chris Porter in 1997. One of the most competitive kids I've ever coached. Makes others around him better but is an explosive scorer. The best PG in the country, high school or junior college." "He cares about his teammates but cares more about winning," Forbes added. "He is not afraid to get on a teammate when he's not practicing hard." Jones will be the third addition to Louisville's 2013 class. The Cardinals already have shooting guard Anton Gill and point guard Terry Rozier. Both Gill and Rozier are attending Hargrave Military Academy for their senior year.
