3426529Week one of the college football season has came and gone. Louisville beat Kentucky Sunday in the Governor's Cup 32-14 during what was a very poor defensive showing from UK. But all wasn't so bad as quarterback Maxwell Smith had himself a pretty solid game to begin his sophomore campaign. Throwing for 280 yards on FIFTY passes, completing 35 with two of those being touchdown passes. This stat line was not looked over as the SEC mentioned Smith in their "Other Outstanding Performances" section for their week one awards. Here is the excerpt from the article.

SEC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games of Week 1 (Aug. 30 – Sept. 2)

QB MAXWELL?SMITH?(Kentucky) -- Completed 35-of-50 passes for 280 yards and two TDs against Louisville.

Smith was the key reason the Wildcats kept it as close as it was. Not one turnover against what will be one of the nation's top defenses, controlled the speed of the game well and showed why he won the starting nod. Congrats to Smith as we expect a big week against Kent State Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
