Home » Boys' Basketball NewsKentucky Helped Break the Color BarrierAugust 16, 2012 KentuckySports.co
Up until the late 60's a black man had never stepped foot on the football field in the South Eastern Conference, but all that changed when Greg Page and Nate Northington signed the dotted line for the University of Kentucky. Through the years Kentucky has been accused of having a racist basketball coach in Adolph Rupp but many forget that it was in Lexington where the SEC color barrier was broken on the grin iron. CN|2 Sports' Chip Cosby caught up with Nate Northington, the first black man to play SEC football, and others to recount the historic event in his latest documentary, "Turning the Page," a story that captures a huge amount of emotion as Northington and his former teamates look back on on their time at UK, how some players were treated, and the death of Greg Page during a UK practice.
If you have Insight I highlighy recomend you tune in to channel 2 tonight 8. This is a great story and it's time for it to be told.
