Brewers Sweep Reds

August 8, 2012

The last time the Reds were swept, you'd have to go all the way back to June 18-20. The team they played? The Cleveland Indians, who were then still in the play-off hunt. But after a slippage by Jonathon Broxton in the eighth inning, the Reds fell short today by a final count of 3-2.

Dioner Navarro got the Reds only runs today, when he connected on a Randy Wolf pitch and sent it over the wall for his first hit as a Red and also giving them a 2-0 lead.

But the Brewers rallied, when Carlos Gomez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, and in the eighth when Norichika Aoki hit an infield single, stole second, went to third on the errant throw by Navarro and then scored when Carlos Gomez lined a base hit over Wilson Valdez. Gomez was then chased home by a Ryan Braun, who was 0-18 to this point, double and giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. This all coming with two outs against Jonathon Broxton.

That's all for me. Wasn't much to say about this game. Mat Latos pitched great in his seven innings of work--just fell on the wrong side of the scoreboard. This was considered a trap series considering they play the Cubs after this. The Pirates play a little later tonight, so hopefully the Diamondbacks can steal another one from them. The Reds missed a golden opportunity in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and one out and did not score a run. You can find me on twitter @stieneKYSCO
