The last time the Cincinnati Reds have won eight games you have to go all the way back to May 31st through June 8th, 2006. But after a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies, the Reds now have won eight games in a row..again. The Reds continue to win without Joey Votto in the line up and that is something to smile about if you're a Reds' fan. Bronson Arroyo career-wise is 0-2 8.84 ERA in Colorado. But Friday he went six and two thirds innings of six hit, three strike out no-run baseball, picking up his sixth win of the year. He pitched very well Friday and the Reds will need him if they plan to make a deep run into the play offs. But it wasn't just Bronson Arroyo Friday who played well. The Reds scored runs without hitting the long ball. This is a good sign. They aren't relying on home runs to win baseball games and are starting to play smal balll. Getting guys on, over and in the old fashioned way. This also goes to say Ryan Ludwick has been really, really heating up as of late. It's nice to see Dusty stick with Ludwick. He has playing great baseball and has been a huge factor to the Reds. Not to mention Brandon Phillips and Scott Rolen have really stepped up since Joey Votto went on the disabled list. Another thing I'd like to pass along is the pitching of Aroldis Chapman. 34 of his last 43 outs have been strike outs. Coming into tonight's game, if you were to take away the Interleague games he played in, he has an ERA of 0.21 against the National League. Thanks to Lance McCalister for providing that stat. That's all for me, folks. The Reds are 12-2 since the All-Star Break and 9-2 without Joey Votto. Houston blew a late lead tonight against the Pirates, so the Reds remain two games up on the Pirates. There aren't any trades to pass along yet that have been made by the Reds, but you can find me on twitter @stieneKYSCO to find out the breaking news about the Reds.
