Home » Boys' Basketball NewsCourtney Lee To The CelticsJuly 20, 2012 KentuckySports.co
Former Western Kentucky University Hilltopper Courtney Lee will be acquired by the Boston Celtics in what appears to be a move to replace the recently departed Ray Allen. The Celtics will lose JaJuan Johnson, Sean Williams and E'Twaun Moore and a draft pick in the deal. Lee was rated a 3 star prospect by scout.com coming out of Pike High School in Indianapolis, IN before signing with (former) Hilltoppers Head Coach Darrin Horn. Courtney set a freshman scoring record while at WKU and ended his four year career tied with Jim McDaniels (a 6-11 Center from Allen County, KY played for WKU from 1968-1971) as the all time leading scorer in the history of WKU (they both finished their careers with exactly 2,238 points scored). Lee was drafted in the first round (22nd overall pick) of the 2008 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic & played on the 2009 Magic NBA finals team for his only season in Orlando before being a part of the trade that sent Vince Carter from the Nets to the Magic. Courtney played only one season with the New Jersey Nets before his two most recent seasons were spent as a member of the Houston Rockets. For his career Courtney Lee averages 11.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.5 APG while shooting 83.2 FT%. Here is the article by Mark J. Spears from Yahoo Sports.
