Dorian Finney-Smith headed to Florida

According to "Sporting News" Dorian Finney-Smith will be playing for Head Coach Billy Donovan next season in Gaineseville.  Here is the story.

Finney-Smith transferred from Virginia Tech after HC Seth Greenburg was fired unexpectedly during the offseason.  Finney-Smith was considering transferring to Louisville (obviously among other schools) after making the "All ACC Rookie Team" after his freshman season.

As Card Chronicle's Michael Rutherford points out it's interesting that the Finney-Smith signing puts Florida at 14 scholarship players yet we haven't heard much controversy surrounding what Donovan will do in order to free up the extra spot.

Donovan has made a habit of landing highly touted transfers in recent years.  Here are the most notable examples:

Mike Rosario  who played his first season as a Gator last year and has one year of eligibility remaining after averaging 6.6 PPG, 1.4 RPG and 1.0 APG during 14.4 MPG during his first season playing for the Gators.  Rosario is a 6-3 191 lb transfer from Rutgers.

Vernon Macklin who transferred form Georgetown before playing the 2009/2010 season and the 2010/2011 season for Billy Donovan and the Gators.  Macklin averaged 11.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG in 24.5 MPG during his senior season as a Gator before being drafted in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft.

Damontre Harris will sit out this upcoming season alongside Finney-Smith.  Harris averaged 6.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.3 BPG and shot a very impressive 80% from the FT line during 25.9 MPG during his freshman campaign for the Game Cocks.  Harris  decided to leave South Carolina after HC Darrin Horn was fired and replaced with former Kansas State HC Frank Martin.  I'm a big Billy Donovan fan (i'm sure you aren't surprised) but my only question is why would Harris want to play for Darrin Horn but not for this guy?
