Elite Eight: #1 Kentucky takes on #3 Baylor

March 24, 2012

fgfgfdLet's get straight to the point, Kentucky will take on the Baylor Bears tomorrow afternoon in the Elite Eight, with the winner advancing to New Orleans and the Final Four!

This will be the 7th time in history that UK and BU have matched up with the Cats owning the series 6-0. The last meeting between the two was way back in 1980 and at one point they played in the 1948 National Championship game, UK winning, which has been the only meeting during the NCAA Tournament. So it's been awhile and I expect this to be a very hard fought game because if there is one team in the bracket that can match up with the size and athleticism of UK, it is this team.

Looking at the Bears, they ended the season with a 27-7 record, 12-6 in the Big12 and are led by five guys who all score double figures. Pierre Jackson leads the way in both scoring and assists with 13.6pts and 5.9 dimes. Sophomore swing man Perry Jones III is second in scoring with 13.4ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 7.6 a game, while super dunker Quincy Acy averages 11.7pts and 7.4rebs per outing and has dunked for just over 50% of his career field goals. Good luck my friend. Not to be left out is pretty boy sharp shooter Brady Heslip. He has scorched opponents behind the arc, shooting 45% and hitting 99-218 attempts proving he can shoot so you must get out on him. Oh yea, that one guy Quincy Miller is a Bear, you may remember him as he adds just over 10pts a game.

As for Kentucky, they are coming off the revenge win over Indiana by scoring 102 points! The offense has been clicking at all cylinders throughout the tournament and I don't expect them to let off tomorrow. Baylor is not the best defensive team out there but could cause problems with the size but I expect a pretty rested Anthony Davis and motivated Terrence Jones to control the paint, allowing Marquis Teague to find the open shooters as he has done all tourney averaging just over 5 assists a game. Also, the way Doron Lamb, Darius Miller and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are playing at full throttle as they did against IU, combining for 64 points, should be enough to propel the Wildcats to victory.

This is no cake walk for UK, don't expect it to be, they are to tall and athletic not to compete as I expect this to be a close game for 33-34 minutes before UK slowly gains a 7-8 point lead at the buzzer to advance to the Final Four and a match up against hated rival Louisville! BUT don't get ahead of this game as we must win to keep playing and you know Coach Calipari will have the guys minds right!

Tip-off is set for 2:20pm EST and can be seen on CBS! GO CATS!!!!
