Losing is tough-A thought from Coach Pocius

January 8, 2011
By Nick Pocius of Kennedy Boys Basketball

After another tough loss tonight, I came home having a very hard time to sleep. I watched film, went over decisions during the game, reviewed game-planning, and talked to the other coaches on the phone. Being this my first year as a head coach, I am taking every single step very critically as I want to make sure I am being the best I can be. This sometimes makes losing even worse than it is. Along with the fact that losses are even tougher when they come in a row. This also really makes you do some gut checking. The only thing I know to do when I lose or don't fill my expectations is to work harder. Is to keep trying and trying and trying again. If one way doesn't work, then try it another way but never give up. Jimmy V said it the best in his famous speech, "Don't give up, don't ever give up". Simple yet powerful. Champions aren't always the ones with the best records or the shiny outfits, champions are also the ones who battle back against adversity. I hope we can be both champions on both accounts. It is certainly hard to lose, but from loss one can only see the benefits of winning. So as I try to go to sleep now and quit with my ramblings, I hope a Kennedy Eagle out there sees this to help also put their mind at ease. Losing doesn't have to be the end, but it can be the beginning. As long as we don't give up, we keep working, and we do whatever it takes to be successful.
