Kendrick Wins Opener at Home
August 25, 2014Kendrick High School
The Kendrick Cherokees posted a 35-6 victory over Stewart County in their season-opener Friday night at Memorial Stadium, but Kendrick head coach Jerry Dukes wasn't fooled by the one-sided scoreline."I wasn't impressed," said Dukes, whose team is coming off its first winning season since 1995. "I feel like we could do a lot better job of blocking and we're not in the shape we think we're in. However, we did get the win and we were able to look at a lot of young kids, so there were some good things that came out of this."
On the defensive side of the ball The Cherokees held Stewart Co to negative 71yrds rushing in the first half, and only gave up a touchdown when the B-Team enter the game late in the second half.
The Cherokees will take on Northside(Cols) on Thursday, Aug 28th at Kennitt Stadium at 7pm, which makes for a short week to correct the things that Coach Dukes did not like.
