The idea of playing in front of their friends and family in one of the biggest games in Cols (The Fountian City Classic) was to good of an offer to turn down. So Marvin and Mayo are headed to Albany State University to compete in the SIAC.
Lewis and Brown led the Kendrick defense over the past two seasons, helping a team that had experienced very little success to a winning season and first-round playoff victory in 2013.
Kendrick finished 7-5 in 2013 and 5-6 in 2012. The former was the team’s first winning season since 1995.
Brown notched 95 tackles and 12 sacks as a senior, while Lewis had 85 and 10 sacks. Brown was named first-team All-Bi-City.
Now, the goal is to have the same success as a dynamic duo at the next level.
“We’re going to wreck someone,” Lewis joked. “We have to have the same intensity, just got to step it up a notch.”
Brown said both expect to be able to step in at Albany State and compete for playing time right away.
Albany State won the 2013 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Centennial football championship over Miles College. After a 1-4 start, it won its final five games of the season, including a 19-10 victory over Fort Valley State at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.
