The Kendrick High Lady Cherokee basketball team is off to another hot start in 2013, 5-0 so far, and the latest winners of the WRBL Athletes of the Week award.
"We're undefeated, but we're trying to get better, be prepared for state," said senior guard Khalia Lawrence. "We have to get better. We have to work on things we're not so good in, and I think we'll be able to do well."
The Cherokees say their key to their success is consistency.
"Just coming to practice every day, working hard, and being determined about what we're trying to do this year: winning a state championship," said sophomore guard Brittany Thompson.
Kendrick is known for their defense and their work ethic. To that end, head coach Sterling Hicks isn't letting his team coast.
"We always have to work hard," Hicks said. "We're built on that. We play defense, and defense is not easy to do, so you have to work at it. For me, and my kids, it's just a continuous thing. Working hard pays off."
Since being selected as Athletes of the Week back in Dec, The Lady Cherokees are 18-0 and sitting in the driver's seat in Region 5-AA.
