Kendrick's Hicks and Dr James Honored

This summer Sterling Hicks - Volleyball/Girls Basketball Coach and Dr Alonzo James - Principal at Kendrick High School were honored by Saint James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church 380 Northstar Drive ~ Columbus, GA 31907. Church learders and event orginizers regongnized several members of the community as a part of their Community Recognition Day. Rev. Leon C. Moore, Jr. Pastor at Saint James Christian Methodist Episcopal said, "the programwas the church's opportunity to reconnect with some of the outstanding members of the neighborhood schools".

Coach Hicks, has won serveral Region Championships, multiple Christmas Championships and his teams are constant figures at the State level in Vollyeball and Girls Basketball. However, during the ceremony he said his greatest accomplishment and the the thing that gives him great joy is the number of young ladies he has placed in college. He figured that number to be somewhere between 31 - 32.

Since his arrival at Kendrick HS as Principal Dr Alonzo James and been clear about his mission: "Return to Greatness" and it appears the faculty and students are all in! Kendrick recently won the "Outstanding School Award".

Kendrick was one of only 19 schools in the country, and the only one in Georgia to receive the 2013 Outstanding School Award.

The award is based on the success of local school leaders and teachers in improving the quality of experiences and academic performance of students.

Dave Spence, president of the Southern Regional Education Board, said Kendrick "illustrates the spirit of change that the 'High Schools That Work' program advocates to get students ready" for college and beyond.
