Don't look now but here come the Cherokees...After getting off to a slow start, just when most have counted out the Cherokee Boys...they put together a 3-game winning streak!
When the Kendrick boys basketball team needed a senior leader on Tuesday night against Jordan, Christian Bradford stepped up.
The senior scored 25 points, including 10 in the final five and a half minutes, to help the Cherokees win 92-88 to take sole possession of first place in Region 5-AA.
It’s a giant leap from where they were just a couple of weeks ago.“We’re in a position to control our own destiny,” Bradford said.
Facing Jordan, one of the best teams in Region 5-AA, the Cherokees rode the tandem of Christian Bradford and Marquise Bonner down the stretch, hanging on for a 92-88 win at home.
With the win, Kendrick (7-13, 4-1) now controls its own destiny in the region, sitting in first place. Meanwhile, the Red Jackets (12-5, 3-1) had a seven-game win streak snapped and are tied at 3-1 with Manchester and Spencer in the standings.
"Anytime you can beat Jordan, with their reputation, you've beat a giant," said Kendrick coach Collins Jones, who worked as an assistant at Jordan before joining the Cherokees.
"We've maintained poise in practice, and we maintained poise tonight. It was a big win."
