Kendrick Football Comes Up Short in OT
September 10, 2012Kendrick High School
This past Friday night The Cherokees were in action at home verses Single A power - Marion Co and it took overtime to resolve the matter.
Kendrick's defense got things started early in the game as Anthony McGruder stripped Mallard of the ball on the third play of the game and raced in for a 28 yard touchdown. The Cherokees successfully converted a two-point conversion on a Travonte Chambers rushing attempt to take a 8-0 lead.
On the ensuing drive, Marion County picked up a first down before another fumbled halted the drive as this time Antonio Jones jumped on the lose ball for Kendrick.
This seemed to be the pattern most of the game, The Cherokees were able to move the ball effectively on the ground, however continued to struggle with their air attack.
The Cherokees fall to 0-2, but Coach Dukes feels confident that if the defense continues to play at a high level, the offense will get on track.
Kendrick plays on the road at Bowdon (2-0) this Friday night.
