Lawrence Sets School Scoring Record

March 23, 2012
Kendrick High School

The Kendrick Lady Cherokees did not have much to celebrate this season. The team that enters every season with post season expectations, lost to Buford in the 1st Round of the State Tournament. Head Coach Sterling Hicks said, it was a season full of growing pains, however there was one thing that proved that the return to greatness will be a short trip, the emergence of a Sophomore transfer from Ft Bliss, TX Kahlia Lawrence.

Lawrence set two records during the 2011-2012 season. Her first was the highest points scored in a single game - 43 vs Heard County. Her second school record was for total points scored in a single season - 663. A record that stood for 12 yrs, held by former Cherokee great Vanessa Graham.

Hicks commented, Kahlia works hard on and off the court. Her GPA is one of the highest in her class. She is very coachable, says Asst Coaches Art Thomason and Rashad Roberson and we would not be surprised if her name is mentioned among the elite for the class of 2014.

The Cherokees will get back in the lab, this summer with several playdates already set in the month of June, including their Annual Summer "Cherokee Classic" which brings in teams from Columbus and surrounding areas for several days of highly competitive girls basketball.
