Indians knock off #5 Northwest
January 15, 2014By Randall Durant of Keller High School Basketball
The Keller Indians bounced back from a dissappointing road loss at Richland in a big way as they went on the road and beat#5 ranked Northwest 55-47. The Indians trailed 12-9 after one quarter and 24-21 at the half. Brock Anders hit three three pointers to keep the Indians close. In the third Keller took control winning the frame 12-5, as Anders and Ryan Feifer each scored 5 points. Feifer, making his first start of the year made a big impact with 9 second half points. Despite missing a couple of one and ones in the fourth , the Indians were 17-21 from the line. The fourth quarter featured some great defense as Brock Anders and Kyle Tanner both made huge plays down the stretch, Anders dove on a loose ball gaining Keller the possession late, and had a big blocked shot. Northwest got as close as 4 points once, but Tanner converted a steal into a layup and they never seriously threatened again. Overall defensive effort was good considering Northwest has been scoring lots of points.
Kyle Tanner finished with 16 points, 4 steals and 6 defelections, Brock Anders had 16 points, including 4-5 on 3's, Nolan Taylor had 8 points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Feifer had 9 points and 9 rebounds, RJ Nembhard 2 point,s 6 assists, 4 rebounds and only 1 turnover. Erik Frederiksen had 4 points and 2 assists. Team had 9 turnovers for the game and shot 17-21 from the free throw line.
By knocking off the #5 team in the state Keller has now won 2 games over state ranked teams. They took down Arlington Martin back in November, when Martin was #3. The Indians win puts them back into a first place tie in district 4-5A. Keller, Fossil Ridge and Northwest are all 5-1, with the Indians having beaten both of them. Keller improves to 15-4 on the year and will host Central on Friday.
