Indians beat Southlake win Tournament
December 29, 2013By Randall Durant of Keller High School Basketball
The Keller Indians beat Southlake 37-33 in overtime to win the Byron Nelson Tournament. It wasn't a thing of beauty, but it counts. Keller came out tight and trailed early, but pulled to a 24-20 halftime lead behind 15 points from Nolan Taylor. The second half was tough to watch as Keller scored 2 in the third and Southlake scored 2 in the 4th to end in a 31-31 tie. Keller finally broke through in overtime for the win.
Taylor, a sophomore, did whatever was necessary for his team to win. He protected the paint, cleaned the boards and scored 24 points. He willed his team to win, and didn't stop until it was done. Nolan was named MVP of the tournament, second time this year that's happened, and second tournament championship for the Indians. The win improves Keller to 12-3 on the year and 2-0 in district. Kyle Tanner scored 7, Brock Anders 4, and Erik Frederiksen 2.
We get to do it all again on Friday, as Keller travels to Southlake for a rematch, this time it is a district game!!
