Merry Christmas from Kellerhoops!
December 25, 2013By Randall Durant of Keller High School Basketball
Merry Christmas!! My favorite time of year. Great time to look back at lots of things we can be grateful for. We have had a great start to our season. Freshmen A team is 11-3, Jv is 10-3, and Varsity is 9-3, each team is 2-0 in district play. JV won first place in the Keller Tournament, Varsity won first place at the Arlington Martin Thanksgiving Tournament. The Varsity is currently ranked #20 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll. Greta start, but there is much left to do. Polls and preseason wins are fun, but don't really count. District is the real deal, and will be a battle throughout!!
I am grateful for my staff. They are not only great basketball coaches, but also leaders of young men. They are very dedicated to your son's as people and as players. Our philosophy is that character wins, so we are always asking our players to commit to each other and that love for one another is what makes them successful. For this to work, everyone must buy in, there is no room for anything else. You can't fake it, and it must be grown. My assistants have done a great job of building this in our players.
Speaking of that love, we had the great pleasure of hosting our first annual alumni game on Dec. 20th. There were 20 ex-players from the last 7 years represented. They got to suit up and represent Keller one more time. Actually, they represented that love and committment that they developed and now years later you can still see it. That commitment and love is what has helped this program reach the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years. Each of these groups has helped this year's group get to where they are now. Our basketball family has grown, and it is great to see the ex players celebrating current successes. This is why you coach and why you play.
