Home » Boys' Basketball News2012-2013 SEASON A HUGE SUCCESSMarch 5, 2013 By Randall Durant of Keller High School BasketballThe Keller Indians have quietly been building a winning tradition, but after the 2012-2013 season the secret is out!! Keller finished the season 23-11, and 12-2 in district on their way to becoming DISTRICT CHAMPS of 5-4A. It was the first district championship since the late 1990's for Keller in boys basketball. The Indians went on to win their Bi-district round game over Arlinton Lamar before falling in the area round in quadruple overtime to El Paso Bel Air. It was the first playoff win for ANY KISD school in boys basketball at the 5A level!! Keller made the playoffs for the 4th straight year, and 5th time in the last 6 years. ...and it doesn't stop there. The Indians JV finished 24-8 and 2nd in district. Led by Blake Nelson, Christian Guillory, and Kevin Downey, the Jv showed potential and promise for future success. ...and it doesn't stop there either! The Freshemn A team finished 21-10 and 2nd in district. Leading scorer Paul Brewer showed that while there is still much to be learned, he has enormous potential. ... Don't forget these guys!! B team finished 14-6, 2nd in district. Blake Campbell led the way. These guys played as hard and are as excited about playing as any group we have. This year's varsity was led by four senior starters. Mike Opolski, Austyn Kennedy, Alec Ingraham, and Blake Stewart. Before you doubt next years inexperience, remember; this year's team only returned one starter. That guy was Opolski, who proved to be the real deal. Next year, our lone returning starter is Freshmen Nolan Taylor. He and Kyle Tanner both proved this year they can play with anybody on a given day. Now they have to prove they can do it EVERY day. Sophomore Brock Anders will also have a huge role in any success next years team will have. So, while these successes don't guarantee future success, the coaching staff is optimistic. While we enjoy the seniors for our last few months with them, the work to continue the tradition they helped build has already begun.
