Freshmen win at buzzer, Varsity wins 5th straight

February 2, 2013
By Randall Durant of Keller High School Basketball

The Keller Freshmen A team didn't play their best game of the season, but it was perhaps their most dramatic. In a close game that went back and forth the whole way, Timbercreek appeared to take control with a 5 point lead with a minute left. Keller would not quit however as Paul Brewer hit a big three to cut it to 2 with about 20 seconds left. Then after Timbercreek missed a free throw, it was Austin Reynolds turn as he calmly sank two free throws to tie the score with 9 seconds left. Timbercreek then turned it over and Cameron Johnson played hero sinking a 15 foot leaner for the win. The win puts Kelelr at 18-8 on the year, and 8-3 in district play. Paul Brewer led the scoring with 14 points, Austin Reynolds 6, Anthony Savera 4, Ben Bahr 4, Cameron Johnson 4, Landon Rowlett 2, Tyler Tutt 2 Layton O'Neal 2, and Luke Walker 2.

The Indians Varsity won their 5th straight game to improve to 10-1 in district play. The win keeps them tied for first and sets up the showdown with Richland Tuesday night. Close game with Timbercreek as expected. Keller was finally able to create some breathing room late fourth quarter to win 45-35. Kyle Tanner was the star of the night, he scored 10 of his thirteen points in the fourth quarter, AND it was Kyle's birthday!! Blake Stewart had 11, Mike Opolski 7, Alec Ingraham 6,  Austyn Kennedy 5,and Nolan Taylor 3.

The Indians win gives them a 20-9 record on the year, and secures no worse than a 2nd place finish in the district race. Keller travels to Richland on Tuesday for the first place showdown. WE NEED THE INDIAN NATION TO HIT THE ROAD AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDIANS!!
