Indians lose in Finals

November 25, 2012
By Randall Durant of Keller High School Basketball

The Keller Indians made it to the finals of the Springcreek Thanksgiving Tournament, but McKinney Boyd put on a shooting display that made the Indians have to settle for 2nd place. McKinney hit 9 of 10 three pointers in the first half. They had 6 of them in the first quarter on their way to a 27-14 lead. It was 46-27 at the half, but the Indians would not quit. They cut it to 12 at 58-46 after three thanks to 11 third quarter points by Austyn Kennedy. The Indians made a couple of runs and cut it to 9 but could never get over the hump losing 74-60.

Austyn Kenendy had 20, Mike Opolski had 10, Kyle Tanner 8, Brock Anders 6, Alec Ingraham 5, Nolan Taylor 5, Blake Stewart 4, and Erik Frederiksen 2 points.

Kennedy and Opolski were both very deservedly named all-tournament. Although Keller didn't bring home the big trophy, they continued a trend. Over the last two years, the Varsity has been in the finals of 5 of the 7 tournaments they have played in. This is a great sign that our expectation is to make the playoffs for a 4th straight year. Keller is now  3-3 on the year, and plays again Tuesday night at O. D. Wyatt.
