Curtis Wraps Up Regular season with 55-6 win over South Plaquemines

John Curtis concluded the 2011 regular season with a resounding 55-6 win over South Plaquemines Thursday night at Muss Bertolino Stadium.

The Patriots, the State’s top ranked Class 2A team, are 9-0 headed into the playoffs.  Curtis rolled to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and added two more TD’s before halftime.  Ten different backs ran the ball for Curtis, none with more than four carries.

Raekwan James accounted for the first two scores on runs of 55 and 5 yards, and Freshman Quarterback Abbe Touzet tallied the next two from 5 and 3 yards out.

Brandon Porter scored on a 9-yard run in the second quarter, and George Moriera followed with a 43-yard TD jaunt.  Gordon Dillon opened the second half by returning the kickoff 72 yards for the score, and Trey Perrier reached pay dirt on a 53-yard pass reception.  Austin Linden kicked five PAT’s for Curtis, and Brandon Richeu converted twice.

Chris Lorden led the defensive charge with nine tackles and Duke Riley had seven stops.

The win followed Coach J.T. Curtis 500th career victory the previous week. His record is now 501-54-6.  His teams have now reached the playoffs 40 times in his 42 years at the helm, including the past 37 straight.  The win over South Plaquemines also clinched Curtis’ perfect regular-season for the 17th time.
