Boys cross country finishes third in the city
October 28, 2012By Preston Curtis of John Curtis Christian High School
On a warm Friday afternoon this past weekend the John Curtis Patriots took to the Metro Championship cross country meet in the first event of the championship season. The meet was a success and an improvement over last years finish.
For the girls, although the team did not score due to several girls resting in preparation for the district and state meets, all the girls who ran both this year and last year improved on their places. Jenna Bordelon, top girl this year, placed 42nd, an improvement from last years 45th. Ashley Wingerter improved from 71st last year to 66th this year, and Daryann Horton improved from 85th to 50th this year. Brandi Blanchard, in her first post season race for John Curtis, placed 60th. The meet contained most of the top programs in the state and will be an important experience moving forward.
The boys team jumped from 8th last year to 3rd this year. Similarly all boys who participated last year improved this year. Matthew Feehan improved from 28th to 19th, Zachary Barthel improved from 48th to 29th, Austin Brown improved from 52nd to 15th, and Christian Paz improved 61st to 27th. Two runners who did not compete last year but did this year include Zachary Morris who finished 31st and Devyn Keith who finished runner up. The team hopes to continue this path and seeks a trophy for first or second place at the state meet in two weeks. In the meantime they have a disctrict title to defend on Thursday.
